A pool with a view.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by Nature in its many forms. Rivers and seas mainly. For years I dreamed of becoming a kind of Jacques Cousteau, and going to the sea in my own Calypso.

I became a Designer but the fascination never waned. Maybe that's why, whenever I can, I love to create spaces surrounded by nature. If you have a pool to create, a tree house, or a farm to renovate, I'm the first to offer. This Hotel project in Douro has given me that possibility. I have been thinking and rethinking swimming pools and interior spaces, which pay homage to the magnificent landscape that these hills and valleys offer us.

Sometimes we just don't create anything. We just gather ideas from the surroundings and listen carefully to Mother Nature's advice. Those are the best spaces. Designed for people as part of a world that existed long before we walked here.

I believe in sustainable design. I think it's the best way for us designers to help build a better present and future, more balanced and more connected to the planet. This is not a mystical theory. It's a certainty I have after years spent feeling the earth under my feet and observing other species that co-inhabit this space with us. If we can do it, why would we do the opposite?
